Some things were worth waiting for. Some things were a culmination of experiences and payoffs, the catharsis to a build-up that was quietly structured and institutionalized into a fully held belief system. A generational accumulation to lead up to a single moment that made it all the more satisfying to see realized. Such occurrences were rare, momentous, and precious beyond words. The only way to describe the events about to unfold was such.

Nestled quietly in the mountainous wilds that painted and populated the region of Paozu, the waters cascaded down to crash into the basin with a heavy roar as the rushing currents overturned down the cliffside and into the crystal blue lake for the waters to crack and thunder while the mist dances at the purge pool. The sweet scent of dew filled the air as the liquid satin flowed over the rocks and down into the gorge below. And there, hovering in the center of the waters where rippling waves shuddered underneath his levitating form, he waited in quiet meditation. The sound of the roaring rapids was drowned out into a dim hum that soothed his anxious mind and brought him to a sense of peace that calmed him. Clad in blues and black hakama marked and accented by light and strategically pieced armor plating, the Saiyan Kryptonian Hybrid focused on the repetition of his breathing; Inhale, then exhale, letting his ribs expand to accommodate the swell of his lungs before contracting as the crisp and soothing air was expunged from his respiratory system. His thick and long mane of wild and feral hair cascaded down past his shoulders and to his waistline like the flowing waters above him come to life to thrust out in all directions in a proud, untamed lion’s mane while he hunched forward and let his mind and heart come to an ease.

This opportunity was long overdue, and the chance to truly test how far he had come in his journey was precious, and sacred to a man like him who viewed the rare reprieve from his responsibilities as an indulgence worth pursuing. The weight of the standard adorning his uniform’s chest carried with it a duty of unimaginable magnitude - his mission as sacred to him as this prospect. He was a man who didn’t give up on hope, no matter how faint or obscure the probability of it being realized. And that chance was now finally here, and he wouldn’t let it slip between his fingers. Not this time.

So he waited, letting the worldly troubles that bore down on him fade away while he let his senses finally grasp hold of an almost forgotten sensation; serenity. The world around him was so quiet that he could at last appreciate it in a way he rarely allowed himself anymore. The buzz of insects chittering as they collected the sap from a tree, the flitter of a bird’s wings in flight, the wind brushing through the grass. Idyllic trances that delighted one’s perception as he waited for the promised arrival. Sparga was patient. He had waited all this time - what was a few more minutes?

He’d come. And then he’d let his warrior’s soul burn bright.

A place that hasn't seemingly changed at all. Through crimson eyes that had witnessed the evolution of this planet across years beyond the reckoning of most men, these mountains appeared strangely untouched by it. Humanity had stretched its cities outward, raised monuments of steel into the heavens, and littered the horizon with the evidence of its advancement. Yet here, civilization seemed to have stopped at the mountain’s edge. Ancient forests remained thick beneath the afternoon sun. Water carved through stone along paths older than the settlements beyond them. Great peaks stood undisturbed beneath an endless blue, while beasts wandered valleys where concrete had never taken root.

From two hundred feet above, it appeared almost exactly as he had seen it countless times before. The difference right now is that he wasn't looking through something reminiscent to a crystal orb in his chambers. A gentle breeze whistled throughout the valley of a place filled with life And there was something peculiar about seeing with one’s own eyes what they had observed for so long from afar. His gaze drifted across the sprawling wilderness; a familiar face.

Not even just a recognizable-- he could just tell by the man's wild hairstyle in identifying the individual below him. So humble and with a firm respect for those deserving of it to the Saiyan of Tomorrow. Of all places, it's some-what fitting to be here for him.

The home of Son Goku and family. The land where the Saiyan raised on Earth had once grown from an unusually powerful child into one of the planet’s most formidable warriors. Later, it had become home to his firstborn as well. A quiet cradle for beings who would repeatedly grow far beyond what their humble surroundings suggested possible.

Perhaps this is just where he thought Sparga found his inner peace and state of mind. The wind swept against Zankai, catching the lengths of his hair and carrying them freely behind him. The orange cloak bound around his waist fluttered violently in the mountain current, contrasting against the Magi King's otherwise motionless figure. He floated high above the landscape without aura or spectacle announcing his arrival. For one who so rarely bothered to cross the cosmos himself, his presence on Earth invited questions.

A reunion, perhaps. There were familiar faces upon this world. Or perhaps there was an urgency concealed beneath his characteristically unreadable exterior, a mere threat to come. Or perhaps the Magi King had simply traveled all this way to see an old friend. He descended slowly; two hundred feet became one hundred, then fifty across from the Saiyan-Kryptonian. The roar of the waterfall grew louder as he approached the earth, his cloak continuing to dance behind him until his boots finally met the ground. The Magi King's arms remained comfortably at his sides before folding them.

His crimson eyes glanced at the Man of Time, assessing him in what seemed to be quiet judgement. But it was more so acknowledging the apparent wellness and good physical state of Sparga.

"Are you falling asleep over there? And I had just come all this way to see a familiar face"

Zankai vocalized. It even sounded condescending but, he knew he somewhat dragged time with his arrival. However, duties in his dominion take priority. He knew that with Sparga's posture, only one thing, was crossing his mind. Readiness for what's to come.

Meditating.png

To say he was glad to have the idyllic peace running through his senses and soothing his nerves was broken by intrusion was a rare thing, one he had no intention on making a habit of. But this rupture in his meditation broken by the arrival of the presence he sensed descending down toward his location was exactly what he wanted. Or rather, it would be more precise to say it was who he wanted to perform said act. How long had it been since their paths had crossed? How long had it been since their previous encounter? One he didn’t even have clear memory of - which stood as a testament to the length of the period without them gracing one another’s company given how astute his mind and memory were when he cared to hold onto those thoughts. If even his super brain couldn’t retain recollection of their last meeting, then it was indeed far too long. When the sound of boots crunching the grass beneath vibrated through his senses, Sparga didn’t yet open his eyes, preferring instead to just take one more long and deep breath.

When Zankai called out to him, teasing him about falling asleep, the Saiyan of Steel’s expression finally shifted from a blank slate into an easy smile before he responded in kind.

Sparga: “Maybe I was just dozing off waiting for you. You kept me waiting so long.”

The tone of his words was kind, soft, and comfortable - not like how he often spoke to others with a blunt and direct intention lending itself toward his desires to help others or be a guardian for a world that fears him. His shoulders relaxed a little more, the weight lifting off of him as his eyes finally opened to reveal deep and dark cocoa colored eyes that caught the sun’s light to give a honey-tinted glow. And as he hovered above the water, his posture straightened while he rose to stand upright and create the impression he was walking on water. His levitation still in effect, he maintained his elevated position with the soles of his boots just an inch off of the water’s surface where he could continue to appreciate the cool dew of the cascade’s splash behind him.

Sparga took a moment to regard Zankai with a friendly expression, warmth and familiarity in his glance as he flew slowly to meet the man and plant his feet onto the ground beside him. How long had it been since Zankai had seen Sparga? He probably looked different now, at least a little. The uniform was different, the weight on his shoulders heavier. But he bore the burden readily and happily with his strength that was so vast.

He was ready if Zankai wanted to begin, he was just going to take his time to appreciate this moment while he could. There was a subtle, faint adjustment to his posture that spoke as thus. His spine was just relaxed enough to snap into attention if necessity arose, but his step was light enough to still linger between the threshold of carefree and focused. Once things began in earnest, he’d easily shift gears toward what was meant to be. But the Superman was glad to finally have someone he can be himself around again.

Sparga: “It’s good to see you again. I was afraid you wouldn’t come.”

For a being whose existence stretched across ages, years had an unfortunate tendency to lose their distinction. Decades could become footnotes. Entire generations could pass while the Magi King remained comfortably occupied elsewhere in the cosmos. And when Earth itself could be observed through the Orb of Cosmic Perception whenever curiosity struck him, physically making the journey had gradually become less of a necessity, even though he was always an instant transportation away. The waterfall's distant thunder carried through the mountain air. Mist drifted from its basin and caught the early afternoon light while forests rolled across the surrounding terrain in seemingly endless shades of green. For all Earth had accomplished during Zankai's prolonged absence, this particular corner of it stubbornly refused to participate. The mountains were still mountains. The forests remained dense and untamed. The water continued carving its way through stone as though civilization had never advanced beyond the horizon.

Perhaps that was why warriors seemed so fond of the place. And to once again find a familiar face among it all was.. Good. Especially one that appeared to be doing well. Zankai caught the slight smile forming across Sparga's face after his earlier teasing. He had traveled all this way, after all. Surely that entitled him to indulge himself a little.

Even if all this way amounted to little more than appearing where he wished. Sparga's answer earned no immediate change from him. Zankai remained characteristically stoic, though there was something unmistakably welcoming beneath the severity of his features.

“Better late than never. Isn't that the saying on this planet?”

It would have been difficult not to. Zankai had watched civilizations rise, cultures evolve, and expressions change meaning enough times that Earth's little sayings weren't entirely foreign to him. Every now and then, the historic being could even be convinced to participate in their humor.

His attention followed Sparga as the Saiyan left his position above the water and finally planted his boots upon the same earth Zankai occupied.

Was the pupil always a bit on the taller side? Perhaps it was the footwear.

That's got to be it. Zankai himself obviously stood somewhat on the shorter side, though few had ever found that particular measurement relevant once confronted with what was contained within those missing inches.

He continued to watch. There was ease in Sparga's movements as he lingered about, but Zankai wasn't fooled by it. Beneath that relaxed exterior remained a firmness in his posture—the subtle readiness of someone perfectly comfortable one moment and capable of becoming something else entirely in the next. Yet Zankai was nearly about to comment on that until Sparga's breath broke first.

“It’s good to see you again. I was afraid you wouldn’t come.”

The Magi King's head tilted slightly. For the first time, the stoicism cracked enough for a small grin to pull at the corner of his mouth.

“I'm only afraid of mediocrity in those that aren't worthy of my time.”

Typical. Zankai always possessed a fondness for taunt and banter, particularly when standing before someone capable of returning it. His arms remained crossed over his chest, his posture shifting not an inch despite Sparga settling into his own. At least for now.
His head straightened, crimson eyes remaining fixed upon his former pupil.

“But I know that won't be the case with you.”

He knew what Sparga had become. One didn't acquire a reputation such as his quietly. Earth knew him. Other reaches of existence knew him. Titles and stories had accumulated around the warrior standing before Zankai since the days when their relationship had been much more plainly that of master and pupil. There were moments when Zankai regarded that progression with something dangerously close to paternal pride.

The Magi King's had paced forward once, diminishing what little conversational distance remained between them. And that was just with the single step. His folded arms finally loosened. They uncrossed slowly before parting outward to either side, leaving his torso completely exposed. For the briefest moment, the gesture could almost have been mistaken for an invitation to embrace an old friend. Almost.

Just an old master standing completely open before his pupil, wearing the faintest trace of amusement upon his face.

“Right, ‘Hero’?” His arms remained spread.

“I didn't come all this way for nothing.” Surely the Saiyan-Kryptonian knew what that implies.

There was something cathartic about the conversation that Sparga was grateful for. Normally being so busy with his hero work left him little time for indulgences, so he typically would retreat to quiet, untamed wilderness to meditate as was the case when Zankai found him here. The idyllic scenery and gentle sounds grounded him and brought him back to center. But in his line of work, it was a lonely reprieve to have to isolate himself so just to catch his breath and steady his mind and soul. So having someone who can actually speak to him and recognize him for who he is beneath the masks he wears to be what is needed of him was grounding in its own way. It was calming, reassuring, and meaningful. The Saiyan Kryptonian hybrid’s shoulders squared as Zankai retorted that he was only afraid of less than stellar interests beneath his worth.

And that thought almost made him smile - Not necessarily a friendly one, but one of pride. He hadn’t changed at all. And Sparga knew one thing with absolute certainty; He was the strongest around. Being Superman meant being the strongest. And he would be happy to prove that to Zankai if he underestimated him here and now. Sparga was anything but mediocre. It might have been some time since he had a real challenge, but he had never been and never would be mediocre. The taunt was obviously intentionally baited to raise Sparga’s hackles, and in its own roundabout way, it worked. For as much as Sparga often disengaged with other Saiyans out of frustration with their pride, Sparga was as true a Saiyan as any other.

Even if Zankai admitted openly he knew Sparga wouldn’t be a disappointment, the mention of it was still enough for the Superman to acknowledge the obvious bait as a way to coax him toward their even more obvious destination this conversation was walking them down.

As Zankai paced forward toward him and opened his arms out in what almost felt like invitation, Sparga bladed his torso and shoulders to turn to face him and then shrugged his shoulders forward with a roll of the joints to limber and loosen himself up for what was to come.

Sparga had long since left Zankai’s tutelage many years ago now, and there would always be a source of connection. But now was time for the student to surpass the teacher.

Now was the time to assert himself and prove he was truly the strongest in a way so irrefutable that would leave no questions unanswered between the two warriors standing here in this moment. Typically restraining his hunger for a worthy challenge with the Kryptonian instincts to protect, the Saiyan side was for once given full reign over the driver’s seat at present. And it was as clear as day that this was so.

A very simple shift in posture spoke volumes as Sparga shifted his footing in preparation, mentally engaging his reflexes and reactive measures to raise his guard. All limbs were primed to react on a hair-trigger’s sensitivity as he focused for what was to come.

Sparga: “Of course you didn’t. Where’d be the fun in that.”

It wasn’t a question, but a statement. An acknowledgement of intention and as Sparga kept his guard raised in a relaxed, formless stance that belied just how ready he was, his arm extended out to proffer a gesture of invitation. Wordless, simple, and to the point as he smiled a confident grin that spoke volumes of his assurance in his own ability to overcome. The air shifted around him gently with that rise in belief in his own abilities, that utmost conviction that seemed so absolute that he would stand tall when all was said and done. He waited patiently, mind and body as one with his senses sharp and reflexes honed to see how the Magi King would respond to his invitation.

The Magi King remained where he stood, arms still parted from his sides, crimson eyes settled upon the Saiyan-Kryptonian before him. Only a few feet separated them now. Sparga had adjusted himself accordingly, limbs loosened and primed to react while maintaining that deceptively relaxed posture of his. He had been given every opportunity to take the initiative and had instead extended an invitation for Zankai to do so. The faint smirk that had remained upon the Magi King's face finally disappeared, returning his features to their customary stoicism. “Fine," spoken internally. It was the only warning Sparga would receive from Zankai's expression alone.

That subtle disturbance Sparga had created within the air hadn't escaped Zankai's notice. In fact, the Magi King had felt it as well, though what began as little more than an atmospheric shift steadily became denser and heavier between them. It was almost as though Mount Paozu itself had finally begun registering exactly what stood upon it. Grass bent beneath the pressure, the mist hanging over the nearby pond gradually peeled away, and its once tranquil surface trembled beneath an invisible weight. Yet there was something peculiar about the density gathering nearest Zankai. The air didn't simply press outward from him; it seemed to conform to his presence, subtly bending along the space his body occupied as though the atmosphere had become something tangible enough for him to influence. There was no explosive transformation, nor some grandiose aura flooding the valley with light. For now, the distortion was slight enough to be mistaken for the consequence of two extraordinary presences bearing down upon the same place.

When Zankai initially placed a foot forward, it was the beginning of the movement resembled from his second. His forward foot touched down and his weight shifted naturally onto it, appearing no different from the casual pace he'd taken toward Sparga moments earlier. Then his other foot came forward to complete the motion, and the simplicity ended there. The Magi King's body lurched ahead with an abrupt acceleration that transformed an ordinary step into an unfathomable leap in movement. There was no elaborate windup, roar, or flare of energy to announce it. The few feet between them simply vanished beneath the advancement as Zankai's second step propelled him forward and slightly upward, his body already beginning to change alignment before the movement had even finished.

In that same instant, Zankai had entered Sparga's immediate space and risen roughly two feet from the ground. It was during the ascent that his previously spread arms folded across his chest, removing them entirely from the conventional mechanics of what followed. There would be no swinging arm to generate momentum, no raised hand to balance the rotation, and no immediate hand-guard accompanying the strike. Zankai simply didn't need them. The explosive drive of his legs had already carried him airborne, and from there his core and hips assumed control. His waist pivoted sharply while his shoulders remained comparatively composed above it, the crossed arms held firmly against his torso as his lower body wound beneath them.

But the Magi King's body wasn't the only thing winding. That strange density surrounding him turned with the motion. The air curled almost imperceptibly along Zankai's rotation, bending around his airborne frame rather than simply being displaced by it. Space itself seemed faintly drawn into the path of his movement, enough that the atmosphere immediately surrounding him remained under subtle influence even while his body committed to the kick. It did not yet lash outward, nor did the distortion interfere with Sparga of its own accord. Instead, it remained wound closely around Zankai's trajectory—a precaution concealed within the attack, something already in place should the Hero attempt to exploit the apparent vulnerability of Zankai leaving the ground with both arms crossed.

His left knee chambered through the turn before his hip snapped through and the leg unfurled. Rather than hunting Sparga's flank or sweeping indiscriminately toward his head, Zankai gave the strike a deliberate destination: the left supraclavicular region, where shoulder, collarbone and the base of the neck converged. His left foot carved toward that point in a descending lateral arc, the elevated angle allowing the strike's weight to bear across Sparga's upper frame rather than merely against its side. The distortion moved with it. The kick was winded in the most literal sense, air winding along its trajectory as though caught within the same rotation, faint spatial distortion threaded through its wake without yet being unleashed independently.

There was tremendous weight behind the otherwise effortless-looking strike, and its purpose was as direct as its trajectory. A clean connection against Sparga's upper-left frame was intended to compromise his balance immediately; the combination of angle, rotational force and sheer physical power sought not merely to stagger him, but to tear him completely from his footing and send him flying across the valley. Whether that result actually came to pass belonged to Sparga. Zankai expected nothing less than resistance from a being counted among the strongest this universe had produced. Mount Paozu, however, did not need Sparga to be struck in order to become a victim of the attempt.

The force carried through Zankai's rotation and the atmosphere wound around it regardless of whether flesh ever met boot. The earth beneath them ruptured from the violence of his acceleration, grass and chunks of soil bursting upward as fractures tore through the bank in branching paths. The displaced pressure swept outward from the kick's path, stripping mist from the basin and forcing nearby vegetation violently away from the disturbance. Loose stone broke free across the mountainside while the pond Sparga had used for meditation depressed beneath the sudden atmospheric weight, its surface buckling before great sheets of water erupted upward. The shoreline fractured beneath it, earth collapsing into the basin as the waterfall continued pouring into what was quickly becoming a churning mixture of displaced water, shattered stone and debris. Their peaceful sanctuary had become collateral damage before the first blow had even been decided.

And Zankai expected it might remain just that—a decision yet to be made.

Sparga was no novice waiting helplessly at the end of a kick. He was one of the strongest beings Zankai knew, and the Magi King had initiated this exchange expecting his former pupil to answer accordingly. Evade. Block. Intercept. Counter. Whatever form that answer took, Zankai had already accounted for the possibility that his left foot would never reach its intended destination.

And now, amidst sudden disruption of the peaceful Mount Paozu and the damages natural terrain quaking form Zankai's easily delivering strike was to determine who would come out unscathed. It could be a smirk or a face of disappointment from the Magi King.

As crimson eyes landed to meet cocoa orbs returning the glance, Sparga who stood in patient preparation and readiness remained calm. It truly had been a long time since their last encounter; Gone was the headstrong and reckless brawler that the Magi King probably remembered who relied on his overwhelming strength to smother his opponents with the magnitude of his might. Instead stood a warrior who preferred to let others take the initiative so they might crash like waves scattered against the cliffside’s absolute resilience. As Zankai accepted Sparga’s patient fortitude with his own expression of acknowledgement, the Saiyan of Steel held fast with his heels planted firmly and his posture firm. Those same previously mentioned senses ensured vigilant perceptive awareness of his environment and all its contents - including the warrior king before him.

As well as the rush of pressure that gradually weighed down on the world around them. Still maintaining a straight spine, Sparga exhaled calmly and with a furrowed brow of utmost focus as the atmosphere around them bowed and bent away under the titanic weight being released. And when Zankai’s foot moved forward to begin projection, Sparga waited patiently, his taunting arm still outstretched though the gesture had ceased and was no longer in motion. And then came the charge. It was sudden, swift, and precise in a way that even he had to acknowledge was flawless - a feat he rarely granted to others anymore. Admittedly, it had been a very long time since the Superman had been graced by the presence of a genuinely worthy foe. So he had grown a little confident with his prowess as well as bored by the lack of challenge. Which made this opportunity before him all the more sweet a meal for him to savor.

As Zankai’s body rose in elevation in accompaniment to the momentum of his leap to drive forward and breach the boundary that separated the two warriors, Sparga held fast. His guard was raised, his reflexes primed to react to a hair-trigger’s sensitivity to ensure that he could react, parry, block, or evade anything he might perceive to the utmost of ability within his domain of prowess. And yet, he made a very different choice.

As Zankai’s hips rotated and his legs stretched out to spear forward with blistering speed that caused the waters behind and beside them to leap into the heavens as towering waves that crashed out around and the ground ruptured from the drag force of the King’s physicality ejecting itself forward to initiate a devastating assault that made the peaceful mountainside shudder in fear of the clash that was sparking off, impact landed true as Sparga grinned with a confidence and a swagger that was unmistakable in its assurance.

KLANG!!!

The clamorous sound like steel banging against steel echoed out akin to a thundercrack as Zankai’s boot soles met their mark against the hybrid’s shoulder that bore such dense and heavy muscle that it defied reason in comparison to his visible musculature and frame. True to his epithet as the Saiyan of Steel, the blow struck true and Sparga skidded back mere inches as his heels carved through the course that the kick should have sent him reeling in a careening flight. The bio-electric aura that dampens and redistributes kinetic impact against his physique was ever present and would sponge a portion of any impact sustained against the Saiyan-Kryptonian hybrid’s body, granting him an enhancement to his already monstrous resilience and durability that would lend a lesser fighter to the impression that the man before them was invulnerable and felt no pain. And true to that threshold of endurance, it would take an astronomical level of force to breach the bulwark of Sparga’s thick hide for pain to register. Physics of course, however, would lend to his body still yielding ground as his spine leaned back to accommodate for the force imparted while his boot heels dug into the sand a little deeper to ground himself in place with grit teeth bared through that still present smile. Zankai was as strong as he remembered, and he felt the impact for true. But striking with brute force rarely toppled Superman, and unless the Magi King drew deeper on those reserves Sparga knew he had, he wouldn’t be.

Heedless of the disaster around them, Sparga’s already outstretched arm that had previously been employed to taunt was now twisting at alarming speed to blur into action so he might coil his fingers around Zankai’s ankle from underneath. If the Magi King wasn’t quick enough to retreat or find an alternative to parry his hand’s incoming snare, Zankai would find a vice grip clenched around his ankle and lower shin that bore a strength greater than entire planets before Sparga’s heels would twist and hips would engage simultaneously as his arm pulled to drag Zankai down and slam him into the ground. Grinding the soles of his boots into the grass and soil to turn about face, if Zankai allowed Sparga or was unsuccessful in preventing his grapple, the Superman would whip his former master around overhead to hurl him onto the grass and stone beneath him. Face or back first, it didn’t matter - what mattered would be the magnitude of impact if Sparga were successful in his endeavor, his muscles engaged to impart a tectonic plate-rattling smash against the ground that upon a fruitful action, the mountains surrounding them would tremble and the basin would once again quake with cascading falls rising up to soak the battlefield as if anointing it in appropriately in chaos that broke the peace of the landscape of two of the multiverse’s greatest warriors asserting their capacity for dominance.

Throughout this course of action, Sparga’s other arm remained loose and limber in case it might need to act accordingly based on how Zankai might respond to the sudden and brutish maneuver. How Zankai might answer this decision, Sparga kept his senses sharp and ensured his body had any available utilities it might find within reach to partake in should he find himself countered.

From start to finish, from the moment Sparga ground his momentum to a halt and reached out to grab Zankai’s ankle and slam him down, he kept his wits about him as he contemplated and considered how this decision might be replied to with eager anticipation. Something was stirring within him after a long dormancy.

KL
ANG!

For all the violence that had accompanied Zankai's approach, the actual meeting of boot and shoulder produced something remarkably simple: a deafening metallic report. It rolled across Mount Paozu like thunder trapped between the surrounding peaks, momentarily competing even with the waterfall cascading nearby. The basin had already ceased resembling the peaceful sanctuary Sparga had chosen for meditation. Fractures webbed outward through the bank beneath them, chunks of stone continued tumbling from disturbed elevations, and displaced water crashed back into the pond in great sheets. Mist that had once rested peacefully above its surface had been scattered into vapor, dragged through turbulent currents while vegetation bowed beneath the fading pressure of Zankai's opening advance. And through the center of that devastation, Sparga moved mere inches. Zankai noticed something else, too. There was an energy hugging closely to his former pupil's physique, a bio-electric presence enveloping Sparga as the physical impact traveled through him. He could perceive how the phenomenon accompanied the reception of the blow, assisting the Saiyan-Kryptonian's already extraordinary body in dampening and redistributing some of what had been delivered. His heels still carved backward through the earth and his spine yielded to accommodate the violence, but the result was considerably different from the flight Zankai had intended.

“Oh?”

A smirk revealed itself upon the Magi King's features. Not because Sparga had disappointed him, but quite the opposite. The kick hadn't been ordinary, yet neither was the man who had received it.

Zankai knew that better than most. He had once been Sparga's teacher, after all, and knew firsthand the absurd resilience contained within that frame. Even without their history, Saiyan of Steel wasn't some decorative moniker; there was truth behind it. Still, what he the Saiyan-Kryptonian had never particularly impressed the Magi King. Planet Magi had introduced Zankai to substances whose properties exceeded what Earth ordinarily classified beneath that name. Hardness, density and durability were merely qualities to be understood, and understanding something often revealed that breaking through it wasn't the only means of overcoming it. Sometimes the answer was simply to move it. Sparga's response came quickly enough to prove why such an alternative mattered. The arm that had remained extended before their exchange twisted beneath Zankai's outstretched left leg, fingers beginning their route toward the ankle and lower shin that had just delivered the blow. From their positioning, it was a sensible answer. Zankai remained elevated above him, his left leg committed and extended after making contact, while Sparga had surrendered only inches. Simply retracting the limb before that hand reached it would've demanded Zankai reverse an airborne commitment from an unfavorable angle. Fortunately, retreating the leg had never been his answer. While Sparga had felt the boot, he hadn't yet felt everything that had traveled with it.

The distortion remained exactly where Zankai had brought it. It had been there when he first left the ground, wound itself around his airborne frame when his hips rotated, and followed the path of his left leg as the kick descended upon Sparga's supraclavicular region. Even upon physical contact, it had remained little more than a dormant extension of Zankai's influence, deliberately refusing to lash outward or independently interfere with the Hero. That restraint had been intentional. Zankai had entered the air knowing exactly what doing so ordinarily meant: no conventional footing, an extended limb and a committed trajectory—all opportunities a fighter of Sparga's caliber would recognize immediately. The distortion had been his precaution against precisely that vulnerability, and now Sparga had reached for it. Zankai's crossed arms finally unfolded, his left hand separating first with relaxed fingers as the strange density surrounding his airborne body reacted in tandem. The subtle bending that had previously conformed to his frame became considerably more pronounced, the air around his silhouette wavering like an image viewed through disturbed glass. There was no second kick. Instead, the space surrounding the first one extended its influence. His boot had already delivered its physical contribution; what followed was the spatial envelope that had accompanied it finally being given direction, compressing along the same vector occupied by his extended left leg before pushing beyond its physical boundary.

There was no second "klang". What Sparga felt instead was fundamentally different. Nothing new collided with him—no second boot, no projectile crossing the narrow distance and no concussive wave arriving from somewhere beyond Zankai's frame. The space already occupying the boundary between Zankai's extended leg and Sparga's upper-left frame simply seemed to acquire weight. It began precisely where the physical strike had ended, gathering against Sparga's left supraclavicular region before broadening beyond the footprint of Zankai's boot and spreading across the shoulder and neighboring portion of his upper torso. What had initially been localized physical contact became an invisible plane of pressure, dense enough that the atmosphere no longer seemed like empty space surrounding his body. It felt as though that space had become something tangible and had begun advancing against him. Then came the vibration—a fine tremor occupying the surface of Sparga's frame nearest the distortion before rapidly deepening into a low, continuous hum through the area beneath the pressure. Cloth fluttered against his body despite the absence of any conventional gust, loose strands of hair quivered, and dust suspended around them trembled while the outline of Zankai's extended boot faintly refracted through the warped atmosphere. There was nothing for Sparga's body to clang against this time. Only the increasingly oppressive sensation that the space beside him had decided he no longer belonged where he stood. Zankai's first attack had struck him. This one was trying to move him.

That was where the Magi King's finesse revealed itself firsthand. Brute force alone hadn't completed the initial strike's purpose. Sparga had endured it, his extraordinary physiology and bio-electric protection reducing what should've sent him careening across Mount Paozu to a skid measured in mere inches, and Zankai had prepared for precisely the possibility that strength alone wouldn't be enough. So rather than simply adding more of the same, he changed the problem. The spatial extension pressed along the direction already established by the kick, seeking to impose displacement upon the entire durable structure before Sparga's reaching hand could complete its snare. From such proximity, success was more than plausible. Sparga had deliberately remained within Zankai's immediate space to initiate his counter, his hand already traveling beneath the extended leg while his footing had only just arrested the momentum of the physical impact. Now the influence already occupying that same space was being weaponized against him.

Should it take hold as intended, Sparga's previous movement of mere inches would become considerably more. The pressure sought first to continue driving his upper-left frame backward, shifting his center of mass beyond the position his deeply planted heels had fought so fiercely to preserve. Once that alignment was compromised, the earth beneath his boots could no longer serve as the anchor around which his upper body merely yielded. His footing would be broken, both boots losing their purchase as the spatial pressure carried his entire frame backward and slightly downward away from the still-airborne Zankai. The intended distance was approximately five feet—not enough to throw Sparga helplessly across the mountain, but more than sufficient to carry him beyond Zankai's extended leg and pull the ankle away from the fingers attempting to secure it. Behind Sparga waited the battered pond, and if the spatial influence completed its entire course without interruption, those five feet were meant to deliver him directly toward its disturbed waters.

Five feet was an eternity for a fighter possessing his endurance and awareness, and Zankai expected the Hero to begin reclaiming himself almost as soon as the displacement started. His body wasn't being rendered limp or stripped of agency simply because his footing had been taken. Even while being forced backward, Sparga could begin correcting his orientation, drawing his legs beneath him, changing the position of his torso or otherwise preparing himself for wherever his trajectory ultimately ended. That was perfectly acceptable to Zankai. The point wasn't to helplessly toss his former pupil into a pond. It was to break the entanglement Sparga had attempted to create and restore distance on Zankai's terms. From the moment Sparga's boots lost their purchase to the point at which the intended five feet had opened between them, the Magi King was already repositioning himself as well.

The distortion curled back around Zankai's own frame as the separation opened, granting him the influence necessary to correct the commitment of his airborne posture rather than leaving himself surrendered to the original trajectory of the kick. His left leg withdrew once Sparga had been carried beyond its immediate range, his body rotating back toward an upright orientation before descending onto the fractured earth. His boots settled upon it without pursuit. Instead, Zankai allowed the newly established distance between them to serve as a clean slate, his left hand rising before his chest, relaxed and curved with the fingers held loosely in a semi-open position, while his right arm rested naturally along the right side of his frame. There was no unnecessary tension within the stance. If anything, the Magi King appeared more comfortable now that the opening exchange had concluded.

“Now…”

A translucent blue aura quietly emerged around him. It didn't explode from Zankai's body or climb skyward in violent tongues of energy; it simply manifested as a seamless veil hugging his silhouette, almost liquid in the softness of its movement. Closest to his frame, the radiance approached a pale cyan-white before gradually deepening into a richer blue toward its diffuse outer boundary, leaving Zankai plainly visible through its spectral translucence while gently distorting the battered scenery beyond it. It wasn't a facade meant simply to announce that he was on guard. Crimson eyes remained upon his former pupil as his voice followed, the final word possessing considerably more depth than the first.

“Come.”
There was command behind it without any need for volume. The invitation had changed hands. Zankai hadn't expected the small deception within his opening exchange to decide anything between them; Sparga had left the proverbial nest long ago and become a warrior whose strength earned recognition across the universe. It was merely a reminder from an old teacher that no matter how far the student traveled, he should always remain on his toes against the Magi King. The translucent blue continued its gentle embrace around Zankai while his left hand remained poised before his chest, its serenity contrasting almost mockingly with the ruined landscape surrounding them.

There was a confidence to Sparga in this moment that couldn’t be understated - an assurance in his own sense of self and his abilities that extended well beyond all notions, as if to say he knew the outcome before it was decided. Perhaps it was arrogance - comparative peace without a true challenge to one’s skills lends itself to overestimating one’s self. Or perhaps it was just the thrill of the moment, of pretenses shed at long last to allow one to be their truest selves in ways that were normally reserved for the most private of instances. It was hard to say for certain which was true to understand why Sparga was so confident against the Magi King. Maybe it was both, maybe it was something else entirely. Truthfully? It didn’t matter. What mattered most at least to the Hero in this moment was that he could finally satisfy the hunger that was always gnawing at him from the back of his mind. That internal craving that he always suppressed in favor of focusing on his responsibilities. In fairness, not many could actually give the Saiyan Kryptonian hybrid what he needed to quell that yearning - not at the intensity he required. But that was not the case here.

He needed to measure what Zankai was capable of, and in some measures, he still is. Could this finally satisfy him? Could he finally have the worthy opponent that his more base urges constantly screamed at him for from the deepest corners of his psyche?

So many others were close, but just couldn’t quite grasp hold of the tier he needed to reach to truly feel like what he craved could be satisfied. The only one thus far was another former mentor who had given Sparga what was honestly the best fight he ever had. And he was hoping so desperately that even he himself didn’t quite acknowledge how deep it went that the other former teacher before him could also prove to be the meal he needed. Thus far? Zankai did not disappoint.

With his arm reaching out, he proceeded heedless of the sudden spike in pressure exerted. That confidence and comfort in knowing very little could prove potent enough to breach his defenses even if he stood there idly made him bold. If little could harm him if he just stood there without a care in the world, then he’d proceed with such a mindset, eagerly anticipating the moment his resilience was overcome so that he would have to actually be on his toes. And as the spacial distortion around him swelled, causing the landscape to give out more, he continued that devil-may-care attitude. So when the ground gave out beneath him, upending the supported stature of his footing, Sparga didn’t even blink as gravity took hold.

Having his spine leaned back to accommodate the pressure of Zankai’s kick pushing him back inches, his weight was already at the limit of what it could support with the given posture. So the natural result would be that when the ground fractured and scattered beneath him from the pressure of Zankai’s release, he would indeed fall back while still wearing that confident grin. Nothing daunted him in this moment, nothing made him flinch. Being Superman had made the Saiyan Kryptonian hybrid not only more renowned, but more sure of himself. Several years of thwarting threats both small and great with expediency and strength of legendary report had forged Sparga into a man of brashness and fortitude. As the ground bowled out beneath him, he let his weight descend to give Zankai the breathing room he generated before his own proprioception and mono-directional gravitational push engaged at the effortless cognitive flip of a mental switch.

With the five feet of space now generated between the two, Sparga took in the comfortability Zankai now wore - seeming to feel more relaxed after the first exchange. The Superman smiled at the thought, allowing his former teacher and now rival his grace period to adjust to current events as necessary and needed.

As Zankai produced an aura of prominent blue hues that flowed like a stream’s current, Sparga’s grin deepened. His eyes sharpened their gaze into a more honed focus as his fists clenched at his sides. Zankai seemed more ready now, and that made the blood in his veins begin to ignite with euphoria. At this distance and with the given posture, only a novice might find themselves under the impression that the Magi King was without a guard. But Sparga was no novice. Hearing the opponent’s voice chime out once again, Sparga’s grin held itself firm. He didn’t do well with demands or commands, he never did. But he’d oblige just this once for the sake of their long history.

The sudden rush of momentum that came from Sparga’s movement propelled him forward with dizzying swiftness. He adjusted his posture and lunged with that same assurance and bold zeal. As he closed in, his reflexes sharpened and each limb found itself ready to jolt into action at the prompt of any given stimuli. Trained reaction timing was primed as he closed in and his right fist thrust forward to aim squarely at the center of the ribcage with sure force that could pulverize the mountains around them into fine sand. The speed of his jab came quicker than lightning and was overwhelmingly powerful. But this was not a strike intended to harm, but probe. If he broke through Zankai’s defenses, then that was its own reward. But the purpose of this was clear; Measure, read, study. His fist streaked forward at blinding agility as the left arm, both legs, and even his tail all anticipated need of use. With his senses sharp and mind and body as one, he acted.

The physical force of his jab produced heavy gale currents that caused nearby trees to bow and lean back against the storm produced, winds whipping to life with staggering might that caused the crashing waves to whirl and scatter even further. Most of the basin had been sent flooding out into the surrounding woods at this point, leaving only a wash of clear mist and rainbow to linger. Between the two titans, this serene mountainside was now a turbulent battleground that barely resembled its previous state.

Zankai most likely was not leaving himself wide open, Sparga knew that. Any warrior of half-decent skill would know that. But far be it from him to not take the dare given to him. His fist thrust forward, intending to push up higher into the air if it met its mark. As he did, his left hand held itself aloft near his jaw while he lunged up to meet his mark, hips rotating to drive the force and maintain efficiency in his form. Though groundless and without stable footing, Sparga still went through the full length of the links of the kinematic chain observed by any respectable warrior to produce a proper strike. Generating power from the ground up, and driving the momentum from the balls of his feet where he pushed forward and up through his hips and out through his shoulders to turn his fist into a rising spear, his arm extended out to deliver its intended impact.

All the while, his guard was tight and his senses were vigilant to ensure that he wouldn’t let himself be caught unawares. As far as Sparga was concerned, the fun was just beginning. And now all there was for it was to see how Zankai might react or challenge.

Five feet disappeared almost as quickly as they had been created. Sparga surged through the lingering mist with enough acceleration to send what remained of it peeling apart around his advancing frame, his right fist already traveling toward the center of Zankai's ribcage. Yet for all its speed, the path remained direct. Zankai's upper body shifted diagonally from its trajectory, His arms formed that diagonal cross, torso positioning just enough for the rising spear of Sparga's fist to meet the Magi King's swift guard.
e displaced air alone struck against Zankai's clothing and sent the edges of his orange robe snapping violently behind him, but his body had already begun leaving the ruined basin beneath them. The translucent blue aura surrounding his frame stretched downward as his boots abandoned the earth and the Magi King levitated higher, allowing Mount Paozu's shattered shoreline, scattered waters and bowed forests to gradually recede beneath him. The Saiyan-Kryptonian's punch was influenced with great strength, prompting this retreat of the Magi King.

And the pursuit was likely as immediate. Through his crimson orbs, Zankai could see the Hero pursuing almost immediately, carrying the momentum of his assault upward while the remainder of his body remained primed to respond.
That left hand still waited near Sparga's jaw, his legs and even his tail prepared for whatever the Magi King might present next. He had come forward wanting to measure him, and apparently the relocation of their battlefield had done nothing to discourage the experiment. Zankai's crimson eyes narrowed slightly as the distance began disappearing again. He'd already yielded the first line of attack. He wouldn't yield the second. His left shoulder drew backward, elbow folding as the corresponding fist wound beside his frame. There was nothing elaborate about the preparation.

With a smirk on his face, the Magi King responded swiftly yet again. The chamber was compact, controlled, with a shift to prep his right arm and for only the briefest instant stored the rotation of his shoulder and torso behind it.

His right fist dove straight ahead as Sparga closed upon him, blue radiance streaming backward from the acceleration. He wasn't aiming around Sparga's advancing posture or attempting another deception. This time the Magi King deliberately offered the most direct challenge possible, sending his knuckles toward the same contested space Sparga was entering and leaving the Hero the opportunity to answer it however he pleased. Should Sparga elect to meet strength with strength, their opposing fists would converge between them

BOOM!

The atmosphere around the potential meeting point seemed almost prepared to detonate before either fighter could claim an advantage. Pressure would burst radially from between their fists, carving a temporary cavity through the surrounding air before expanding outward in a circular shock front. Their respective energies would stream backward around their bodies, Zankai's translucent blue peeling from his shoulders in long currents while the skies above Mount Paozu trembled beneath the collision. Far below, the mountain would feel it too. The remaining surface of the basin would ripple, fractured stone would chatter across the ground, and trees already bowed by their earlier exchanges would bend beneath another delayed gale descending from overhead.
The instant their opposing momentum had been tested—should Sparga accept the clash—the Magi King intended to break clash.
His right arm would recoil instead of remaining extended, withdrawing along nearly the same compact route it had traveled while Zankai simultaneously rotated his torso. That recoil would already be feeding the next attack. His left shoulder would advance through the opening, fist snapping toward Sparga's upper frame before the left had completely returned to guard. Whether that second strike met Sparga's body, an intercepting forearm, a fist of his own, or nothing but the wake of an evasive movement wasn't something Zankai could decide. What mattered was that the right wouldn't arrive alone. His hips would continue through their rotation, one knee drawing upward behind the punch before threatening to drive through the space between them, while the recovered left remained prepared to fire again from another angle.

Left straight. Right hook. Rising knee. A short kick unfolding from the opposite side. Another fist prepared almost immediately behind it.

Each movement would remain remarkably clean despite the increasing tempo, Zankai refusing to sacrifice technique merely because the exchange had accelerated. His punches traveled along short, efficient lines and returned just as quickly. His legs chambered before extending rather than swinging wildly through open space. Even suspended without conventional footing, his torso, hips and shoulders remained synchronized around an invisible center, levitation providing the stability that the ground ordinarily would've supplied. One attack prepared the body for another until individual movements threatened to disappear into a continuous offensive rhythm.

And Sparga had already prepared himself for exactly that kind of conversation.

His left hand remained available. His legs were ready. His tail was ready. His senses had been sharpened specifically to recognize and answer stimuli as they emerged. Zankai knew better than to assume the Hero would simply absorb a sequence that practically invited retaliation. A forearm could suddenly occupy the path of Zankai's fist. Sparga's opposite hand could streak back before the Magi King's own had finished recoiling. A kick might meet another kick somewhere between them, or either fighter could slip several inches from a threatened impact only to immediately return something through the opening it created.

There was a euphoria to the moment that couldn’t be understood by those who didn’t live for this. The thrill of battle against a worthy opponent is the pursuit of any who walks the Way of the Warrior, and while Sparga had devoted his life to another Way to balance himself out and seek peace, the truth is that part of him always had and probably always will hunger for this sensation. The burning need to test himself against a challenger who could match him was so deep in his bones that the ache never really went away, just settled comfortably. But now that itch could be scratched at last - hopefully. All previous competitors had faded behind him as he continued to skyrocket toward a destination even the Saiyan Kryptonian hybrid couldn’t see. Had he outgrown his former mentor as well? The only way to tell was to find the answer to that question in the heart of battle.

As his fist drove forward and upward to force the Magi King to give ground, an endeavor that found itself successful, Sparga grinned proudly. And to Zankai’s credit, his prediction was right. Sparga gave chase happily as was expected of him - or perhaps invited was the right word. He truthfully couldn’t tell, nor was he of a mind to inquire. What mattered most was enjoying this moment to its fullest, consequences be damned. As he approached, rushing through the space yielded and forced open by his own might, his previously engaged and prepared sensory perceptive skills kept his awareness sharp and alert to bear witness to the shifting of hips and torso as a fist chambered back. It was simple, direct, and to the point - much like Sparga’s own preferred combat style. Maybe there was some truth to students eventually teaching their mentors. The notion wasn’t lost on Sparga, as he met Zankai’s smirk with one of his own.

When the Magi warrior king’s right fist shot forward in a spearing thrust to contest the space as Sparga moved toward it, the chambered left fist that he had kept close to his jaw in protective measures instinctively bolted as his shoulder leaned forward to power the momentum of his charge, directing him to press on. As his left flank leaned in to deliver the power of the strike, his right fist swapped back to prepare itself with its own chambering into a measured guard. But the real effort came from the punch as phalanges impacted with one another. The rupturing concussive burst of kinetic force echoed out like a thundercrack as fist smashed into fist sent reverberating distributions of the residual force between the two blows out to pulverize the environment around them as the mountain valley below began to fracture and crumble.

And that was before the recoil of their blows colliding into one another impressed a bounce into his shoulder and extended arm that caused his left side to retreat back. As his weight shifted from the reverb running up his arm, Sparga watched Zankai come in with his own right fist chambered and in motion to strike. While Sparga’s weight shifted from the recoil, he kept his right fist raised to guard and shield himself, but as he did so, his hips began to rotate with the momentum impressed upon him. Twisting into a full leftward rotation, Sparga’s right leg whirled around to swipe at the extending fist with the intent to capitalize on the superior reach of the longer limb and though it were just a few inches, exploit Sparga’s greater height. His own attacking strength amplified by the forces used to initiate his rotation, Sparga’s kick would deliver unto its target if successful a payload comparable to a world sundering blow, and even if Zankai evaded, the whipping gale currents would generate such speeds that the friction would cause the air to heat up into a supercharged state and ionize into an excited surge of energized currents, sparking surges of plasma through the heavens to crackle like lightning - which in turn would generate turbulence in the atmosphere that would lead to genuine stormclouds roiling to life.

And regardless of whether or not the first kick met its mark to redirect and parry the incoming punch or land true onto Zankai’s physique, the rotating arc of his momentum would carry further as his hips shifted over one another and the right leg would roll over the left to carry another snapping kick to deliver even more punishing impact that would thunder with concussive might that even the greatest of Gods would hesitate before.

Zankai was a pristine warrior and Sparga had no doubt that the Warrior King could counter, retaliate, or redirect this strength as great as it was. He willingly compromised his balance by making use of his opponent’s own strength to augment his own striking power, and that was a risky play that could lead itself to great rewards - or punish him thoroughly. Only time would tell in these moments between seconds at which they moved. He kept his senses astute and vigilant, mindful of his opponent’s actions. But even he could only do so much from this position. He had a few limited number of options available to him to retaliate in case the challenger proved capable of intercepting and interrupting his course of directive. Limited, but not entirely without choice. Could Zankai breach through and force him to utilize those resources?

Mind and Body as One, he let his vigilant perception keep sharp as his physicality engaged to deliver crushing blows that may or may not be intercepted.
